What Harness Size Does a Shiba Inu Need?
Choosing the right harness size decides whether your Shiba Inu is comfortable and safe, or ends up slipping out at the first scare. Shibas are experts at escaping backwards, so "roughly" will not do here. This guide explains how to measure and which CountryFox PRO harness size suits each Shiba.
Quick answer: most adult Shiba Inus wear size S (7 to 11 kg) and the stockier ones size M (11 to 15 kg).

How to measure your Shiba Inu in 3 steps
Get a flexible tape measure
Use a sewing tape, or a piece of string that you then measure with a ruler. Avoid rigid hardware-store tapes: they do not adapt to the Shiba's dense coat.
Measure the neck at the base
Go around the base of the neck, where the harness will sit (not the upper area where a collar goes). Leave room for two fingers between the tape and your dog.
Measure the chest at its widest point
Run the tape just behind the front legs, around the widest part of the ribcage. Again, with two fingers of room.
💡 Tip for very fluffy Shibas: always measure over the coat without flattening it. The double coat adds volume and is what really takes up space under the harness.
CountryFox PRO harness size chart
| Size | Neck | Chest | Approximate Shiba weight |
|---|---|---|---|
| XS | 22–30 cm | 34–46 cm | Puppy under 7 kg |
| S | 28–40 cm | 44–56 cm | Adult, 7 to 11 kg (the most common) |
| M | 36–50 cm | 54–68 cm | Large or stocky adult, 11 to 15 kg |
| L | 44–58 cm | 66–82 cm | Very large dogs or mixes, over 15 kg |
⚠️ If your Shiba is between two sizes: choose the larger one and fine-tune the fit with the adjustable straps. It is easier to tighten a little than to correct a small harness that rubs.
What if my Shiba is still growing?
Measure again every few weeks. A puppy changes size quickly, and a harness that is too big raises the risk of escaping. If your puppy is between XS and S, start with the size that gives a firm fit today.

Why the CountryFox PRO suits a Shiba
Shiba Inus often dislike having things pulled over their head. The CountryFox PRO fastens with a dual neck opening, has padded neoprene where it touches the body and a front anti-pull ring. It has three adjustment points to fit their silhouette.
